Learning Management System – LMS
8. Learning Management System – LMS

A Learning Management System (LMS) is “a software application that automates the administration, documentation, tracking and reporting of training events”. LMSs range from systems for managing training/ educational records to software for distributing courses over the internet and offering features for online collaboration. In many instances corporate training departments purchase LMSs to automate record-keeping as well as the registration of employees for classrooms and online courses-students self-services (e.g., User notification, manager approval, wait-list management), the provision of on-line learning( e.g., Computer Based Training, Read and understand), on-line assessment, management of continuous professional education (CPE), collaborative learning (e.g., application sharing, discussion threads) and training resource management (e.g., instructors, facilities, equipment), are dimensions to Learning Management Systems.

Learning management systems enable an organization to effectively implement enterprise learning. With a LMS, training and e-learning are managed by the LMS software allowing users and administrators alike to easily access courses and reports. Using a LMS, users can log on and easily access the training courses. As the student completes the course, scores are tabulated and reports generated. Likewise, managers and administrators can access reports on the LMS should be able to doo the following: -

  1. Centralize and automate administration.
  2. Use self-service and self-guided services.
  3. Assemble and deliver learning content rapidly.
  4. Consolidate training initiative on a scalable web based platform.
  5. Support portability and standards.
  6. Personalize content and enable knowledge reuse.

Learning Content Management System (LCMS): A Learning Content Management System (LCMS) is a related technology to the Learning Management System in that it is focused on the development, management and publishing of the content that will typically by delivered via an LMS. An LCMS provides tools for authoring and re-using or re-purposing content (Mutated Learning Objects) MLO as well as virtual space for student interaction. LCMS is a multi-user environment where developers may create, store, reuse, manage and deliver digital learning content from a central repository. The LMS cannot create and manipulate course, it cannot reuse the content of one course to build another. On the other hand LCMS applications allows users to create, import, manage, search for and reuse small units or ‘chunks’ of digital learning contents/ assets, commonly referred to as learning objects. These assets may include media files developed in other authoring tools, assessment items, simulations, text, and graphics or any other object that makes up the content within the course being created.

An LCMS is software for managing learning content across an organization’s various training development areas. It provides developers, authors, instructional designers and subject matter experts the means to create and reuse e-learning content and reduce duplicate development efforts. Rather than developing entire courses and adapting them to multiple audiences, an LCMS provides the ability for single course instances to be modified and republished for various and history. The object stored in the centralized repository can be made available to course developers and content experts throughout an organization for potential reuse and repurpose. This eliminates duplicate development efforts and allows for the rapid assembly of customized content.

LearnSOFT Learning Management System [LLMS]: A learning management system (or LMS) is a software package, usually on a large scale (that scale is decreasing rapidly), that enables the management and delivery of learning content and resources to students. Most LMS systems are based to facilitate “anytime, anywhere” access to learning content and administration.

At a minimum, the LMS usually allows for student registration, the delivery and tracking of e-learning courses and content, and testing, and may also allow for the management of instructor-led training classes, and resource allocation (Venues, rooms textbooks, instructors etc). Most systems allow for learner self service, facilitating self-enrollment, and access to courses.

  1. LLMS is a web-based solution and available for 24X7.
  2. Highly security enabled system.
  3. Administrators/ Trainers have full control over the solution.
  4. Usage of multimedia is the core part of our LLMS.
  5. Can access the solution anytime and anywhere from the world.
  6. User friendly system designing.

Importance of LLMS: LLMS is a web-based application developed for corporate and institutions. This extraordinary way of learning a language is entirely different from the traditional way of learning. Here learning becomes more task-based and contextual, thereby increasing the language proficiency in an individual. It provides an easy way to master the language through the method of listing and learning in a fully computerized ambience availing individual attention.
